Sunshine Nursery
Sunshine Nursery School, The Gambia
Sunshine Nursery School is located in a small and remote developing village in Jamwelly (Manduar Region) of the Gambia. The area is extremely poor and the people there have very little. Busy Bodies has been involved in its development since 2017 and provides support for the school in many ways. We have funded the build of 3 nursery and 6 lower basic school classrooms. We purchased additional land that they use as a vegetable garden to grow produce to sell and provided a mini bus that runs as a Bush Taxi, again to provide income for the school. We collect and send over parcels of toys, books, clothing and our fabulous parents and practitioners donate £1 a month to help fund maintenance and other small developments. We also run a child Sponsorship program that enables children to access an education at the school.
As our involvement and support has grown over the years we created ‘The Jamwelly Foundation’ to enable us to widen our network of support.
Sponsorship Program
We have a sponsorship program to fund children to enable them to attend the school and for £55 a year this buys their uniform, shoes and school bag, with any money remaining going towards the running costs. Several practitioners have been forunate enough to visit the school and work with the children and teachers and from this we are working towards running a volunteer program that will support the teachers in their own professional development and bring new methods of teaching and learning to the children.
